The Musée de l’Armée’s Napoleon the Strategist exhibition celebrates one of the most famous aspects of the history of Napoleon (1769–1821) : his skills as a military commander.
Over 200 works and objects from French and European collections, such as paintings, maps, uniforms, personal objects and manuscripts, paint a fascinating picture of his meteoric rise.
The exhibition explores his education, the context of the era, the issues at stake and the progression of his campaigns. An analysis of his most famous battles, including the Pyramids, Austerlitz, Wagram, Borodino and Waterloo, shows Napoleon at the heart of the action. Specially designed multimedia tools provide an immersive approach to Napoleon’s warfare strategies.
In an ironic twist of fate, the battlefield was the place where the unrivalled master strategist eventually lost the empire he had built, overcome by his European enemies. Nevertheless, two hundred years later, Napoleon’s name is still associated with military success.
Once you have enjoyed the exhibition, discover the museum’s permanent collections dedicated to the Revolution and the Empire as well as the Dome church, home to Napoleon’s monumental tomb since 1861.
