In partnership with the Foundation Charles de Gaulle, the musée de l’Armée presents the exhibit Vive le dessin libre!! Charles de Gaulle en caricatures until October 18, 2012.
For remarkable physique, already acquired qualities and strong personality General de Gaulle was by far destined to be a source of constant inspiration for press illustrators and more specifically cartoonists.
This exhibit covers sixty cartoon series and posters issued during the last sixty years. Its aims : to highlight the context and offer an insight to some of the key areas touched upon by French and foreign cartoonists on major events such as WWII, the War of Algeria, the Franco-German relations, the 1965 French elections, the construction of Europe, the events of May 1968… An opportunity to share the works of so many wonderful artists whose cartoons appeared in the finest leading newspapers.
